George Neiderauer is probably the person most responsible for Proposition 8’s passage. Neiderauer is the Archbishop of San Francisco. Neiderauer had been the bishop of the Catholic diocese of Utah, and used his connection to built a coalition with leaders from the Mormon Church, which insured an almost limitless supply of cash used to support the Proposition 8 campaign. Niederauer spent 11 years in Utah as the bishop of the Catholic diocese of Utah. The Proposition 8 campaign used lies and fear tactics to bear false witness against same-sex couples and queer families. The tired and familiar tactic of telling parents that gay people were going to corrupt their children—this time because they would learn about us in school—was a central theme of the campaign.
